Hatcher Pass ATV Adventure Tour

Join us this summer on Hatcher Pass, high in the Talkeetna mountains for an ATV or UTV adventure of a lifetime. Experience the adventure of splashing through rivers and climbing mountain trails into the backcountry of Alaska for a 360 degree alpine view.

The tour is 3.5 hours long and departs at 9 am and again at 1 pm. Our tours meet at our base in Willow and then head up the mountain. There is a free shuttle from our base to where we start our tours on the mountain. There is plenty of parking at both locations including RVs and our Hatcher Pass location is approved for rental vehicles if you would rather drive up there yourself. Please arrive 30 minutes before the tour starts to check in. If you are also planning on joining us for lunch please arrive at noon at our Willow base.

This tour is suitable for drivers of all ability levels and experiences. Don’t worry, if you’re new to ATV’s, we’ll work with you to build your skills as we progress throughout the tour. Choose from a single rider “ATV” or a multi-passenger “UTV” or “Side by Side” depending on your group size and what type of adventure you want. Drivers must be 18 years or older with a driver’s license to drive either machine. We allow children to ride in a UTV provided that they can properly wear a seat belt while sitting up or using a booster seat. The ATV is a single rider machine. We price UTVs for up to either 2, 4, or 6 passengers. Rain jackets, boots, pants, helmets and goggles are provided. Hand warmers, head socks and dust masks are available for purchase at our check in cabin.

Midnight Sun ATV Tour - June/July

Alaska is the land of the Midnight Sun. Make the most of your time this summer with a “Midnight Sun” ATV or UTV ride into the backcountry of Alaska on Hatcher Pass. Experience the same adventure of our signature half day ATV Adventure Tour except it will be against the late night sun and cool evening colors of the Talkeetna mountains. There’s nothing like being on the mountain in an ATV as the sun sets low on the horizon.

This tour is 3.5 hours long and departs at 6 pm. Our tours meet at our base in Willow and then head up the mountain. There is a free shuttle from our base to where we start our tours on the mountain. Both locations offer ample parking space for RVs, and if you prefer to drive up to our Hatcher Pass location yourself, please note that it is approved for rental vehicles as well. Please arrive 30 minutes before the tour starts to check in.

Dog Sled & ATV Adventure Tour - Summer

Experience the best of Alaska with our combination dog sledding and ATV tour.

This tour is the perfect adventure when visiting Alaska. We’ll provide you with the foundation to work with the dogs and build relationships with them as well as the skills to have the best adventure on the mountain on ATVs. We look forward to seeing you this summer.

This tour begins at 10 am. The dog sledding portion is approximately 2 hours and the ATV tour is 3.5 hours. We price the tour according to the type of machine you choose to rent for the ATV portion of the tour. Please note: We do not provide drivers for our tours. You must be at least 18 and licensed to drive a machine. Single rider ATVs and 2-6 person UTVs are available for this tour. We include rain pants, jackets, boots, goggles, and helmets. Hand warmers, head socks and dust masks are available for purchase at our check in cabin.

Your day begins with a visit to our Iditarod kennel where you get to meet and play with all of our dogs. You’ll find they each love attention and are happy to be with you. While you’re making new friends with the pups, we’ll be getting the team ready to head out on the trail. Feel free to get involved with harnessing the dogs. We’re happy to teach you. From this point and once the team is ready we’ll head out on the trail through the woods and over the hills on an interactive run with the dogs. We’ll share stories of the team, answer questions and of course there is plenty of time and opportunities for pictures.

The next stop in your day is lunch. We serve up gourmet burgers, fries, cookies and lemonade. If you’re a vegetarian. Please let us know in the morning so we can throw a garden burger on the grill for you. Be warned though, our retired dogs have mastered the art of giving you world class puppy dog eyes during lunch time.

Afterwards, we head up the mountain to our base on Hatcher Pass for an ATV or UTV adventure high in the Talkeetna mountains. We start off on easy terrain to make sure everyone is comfortable with their machines but soon enough you’ll find yourself splashing through creeks and climbing mountain trails with ease. It’s a full day that will be the highlight of your vacation.

If you want to drive your own machine, ATV rental is the best choice for your adventure. If you have children or people not interested in driving, the UTV is the best option. The ATV option is priced per person, while the UTV option is priced for up to four people. Our rentals include all the gear you need to enjoy your ride, such as helmets, rain gear, boots, goggles. Protective Gear – Provided on All ATV Tours and Rentals

  • Helmets are mandatory for all riders on Snowhook’s guided ATV tours and rentals.
  • Wear long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toe shoes are a must.
  • Goggles or a face shield are recommended to protect against dust and debris.
  • Wet weather gear, as conditions can change quickly in Alaska.
  • Hand warmers, head socks and dust masks are available for purchase at our check in cabin. 

Before starting any of our outdoor adventures, as they say safety comes first. Here is some riding safety information and guidelines for you and your group to follow whilst on one of our guided ATV tours.

  • Snowhook’s guides will provide a safety briefing and instruction before your tour.
  • Always keep both hands on the handlebars and both feet on the footrests.
  • Do not carry passengers on an ATV. Passengers on UTVs only, ensuring everyone has a seat.
  • Always follow your guide’s instructions and stay on designated trails.
  • Be aware of changing terrain and adjust your speed accordingly.
  • Keep a safe distance from other riders and obstacles.
  • In case of emergency, stay with your vehicle and a guide will help you.
  • Never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. – We have a zero tolerance policy, and reserve the right to remove any individual(s) before or during a tour.
  • Riders on our tours are financially responsible for any, and all damage to our machines, accidental or otherwise.
